The best direction depends on the complete route, not simply the country you visit first. We recommend planning the itinerary around confirmed activities and practical driving distances before arranging flights.

Cross-Border Travel and Entry Requirements

A combined safari involves international travel between Uganda and Rwanda. Your itinerary should account for border crossings, road transfers, passport validity, applicable visas and any other entry requirements for your nationality. Eligible travellers may be able to use the East Africa Tourist Visa, which covers tourism travel to Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya under its conditions.

It is not a universal substitute for checking your personal eligibility and entry requirements. Review the current official guidance before applying. Your safari arrangements should also allow sufficient time for transfers between destinations and any scheduled activities on arrival.

Chimpanzee tracking can be arranged in suitable forest destinations, including Kibale in Uganda and Nyungwe in Rwanda. Permit costs, eligibility, booking conditions and availability vary by activity, destination and visitor category. Confirm the relevant permits before treating your preferred travel dates as final. If your package includes permits, check that this is stated clearly in its inclusions.
